HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION

Don’t throw away those hazardous materials in the trash.  A Household Hazardous Waste Collection is being held in the City of Richmond, Saturday, October 2, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The collection point is Beebe Street Memorial Park.  The County Health Department will have personnel and equipment set up near the bathrooms in the park.

  Household Hazardous Waste Checklist

bullet Only Macomb County households may participate – business wastes are not accepted.
bullet The Health Department reserves the right to limit quantities accepted at HHW collections.
bullet Please keep hazardous substances in labeled or original containers.
bullet Do NOT mix different hazardous products together.
bullet Avoid contact with hazardous substances.
bullet Transport leaking containers in a pail.

 Do bring the following items to a Macomb County Household Hazardous Waste Collection:

 ·        Automotive Products

Gasoline             Brake Fluid

Motor Oil           Transmission Fluid

Battery Acid       Spray Paint

Solvents and Degreasers

Used Oil Filters (drain filters and place in sealed Ziploc bags)

·        Gardening Products

Pesticides          Sprays

Weed Killers     Poisons

Fertilizers          Powders/Dusts

 ·        Household Products

Oven Cleaner               Muriatic Acid

Rat/Ant Poison             Drain Cleaner

Pool Chemicals             Photo Chemicals

Household Batteries      Paint Thinner/Solvent

Paint Stripper               Nail Polish & Remover

Aerosols (unless empty)  Oil Based Paint

Products Containing Mercury

Mercury-containing fluorescent tubes/bulbs

 The following products are NOT accepted.  Please do NOT bring them to the HHW collections.

 ·        Automotive/Marine Batteries – Return to a battery retailer.

·        Smoke Detectors – Return to the manufacturer or wrap in newsprint and dispose of in the regular refuse.

·        Antifreeze – Contact the MCHD for information.

·        Ammunition/Flares/Explosives – Contact your local law enforcement agency for additional information.

·        Latex Paint – Latex paint is not a hazardous substance and therefore is not accepted at the MCHD Hazardous Waste Collections.
