Talkin' Trash Did You Know... Up to 80 trash-hauling trucks per day, each carrying 40 tons of garbage from Canada, cross the Blue Water Bridge on their way to Pine Tree Acres in Lenox Twp. Pine Tree Acres is the state's third busiest landfill, burying 1.6 million cubic yards of Canadian trash last year. Pine Tree Acres is Macomb County's only waste disposal site, and it handles more trash from Canada than from Macomb County. Trash shipments are considered protected interstate commerce and can only be restricted by Congress. The out-of-state trash doesn't have to meet Michigan waste disposal standards. In the last 6 months of 2002, 157 tickets were issued by the Macomb County Sheriff's Department for trucks that were a combined 1.4 million pounds overweight. Your opinions count!
