THE DICTIONARY PROJECT
& SHEPHERD LINCOLN MERCURY
On September 11th,
2003 Shepherd Lincoln Mercury in Downtown Richmond provided dictionaries to
all 3rd grade students at Will Lee Elementary School in
Richmond. Earlier in the week dictionaries were also provided to St. Peter
Lutheran School and St. Augustine School. This is the second year that the
local Lincoln Mercury dealership has participated in this national program.
The goal of this program is to aid third grade teachers in their goal to see
all their students leave at the end of the year as good writers, active
readers, and thinkers. Teacher’s benefit by knowing that their students
have consistent access to a tool for homework and in class exploration. The
project also allows children the opportunity to own their own dictionary.
Jim Shepherd, owner and president of Shepherd Lincoln Mercury said “This is
a wonderful program for our children and their teachers. It is especially
heartwarming on a date that marks tragedy for our country to be able to give
something back to our community and receive so many smiles and thank you's
in return.” We handed out over 200 dictionaries this week and we intend to
do this every year for the 3rd grade students in Richmond.” The
Dictionary Project is a national program that delivers over 500,000
dictionaries annually to children in 35 states. To learn more about this
