The personnel roster for the department is 8
fulltime employees. During the summer, 2 temporary employees are added.
Because the departmental roster does not include secretarial staff, someone
is not always available to answer the phone. To insure timely processing,
complaints and requests should be directed to City Hall at 727-7571.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE that from December 1st thru April 30th , No parking will be
allowed on any curb street between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (SWIP): SWIP is a multi-phase program that
causes sidewalks to be repaired, replaced or constructed through special
assessment proceedings. These projects normally take place in late
Spring/early Summer, As funding may allow, property owners not included
within a given phase could request to be included. If accepted, the payment
requirements of that particular phase would be followed.
TREE PLANTING: Richmond has an ongoing tree planting program. Depending on
funding and bid prices, we plant approximately 60 trees each Fall. This is a
small, but effective, program that has made positive enhancements in
Richmond's appearance.
SNOW REMOVAL: One drawback of curb streets is that less room is available
for snow plowing operations than on non-curb streets were vehicles can park
on the shoulder off of the traveled portion of the street surface. To
compensate for this, we must begin enforcing parking restrictions.
The DPW is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and when snow begins,
crews start salting and plowing major streets and school areas, followed as
soon as possible by residential streets.
Plows will push snow into your driveway approaches. This cannot be helped.
Please do not shovel, push or blow snow from sidewalks and driveways into
the street. This violates state law and you may be cited. Place snow in the
public median (between sidewalk and street) in a manner which does not block
a sidewalk, obstruct vision or create a hazard for vehicles. Please notify
your snow removal company of this requirement.
Please remember the City Ordinance #14-2 requires residents to keep their
sidewalks clear of snow, ice and other obstructions. Doing so will allow
children, postal workers and other pedestrians a safer place to walk than in
the street. |
