M-19 Railroad Crossing Reconstruction
Monday, July 12, 2004 – Friday, July 30, 2004
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Canadian National
Railway (CN) will be reconstructing the railroad crossing of Main Street
(M-19) during the last three weeks of July. These repairs are necessary due
to the increasingly poor condition of the crossing, which is causing traffic
problems. These repairs will include a total reconstruct of the crossing
that will take 19 days to complete. The crossing will be shut down to
vehicular traffic from July 12th through July 30th. CN will complete the
railroad portion of the crossing and MDOT will repave the approaches on
M-19.
The tentative time-line is 19 days
July 12th – July 21st Railroad crossing work
July 21st – July 30th MDOT work
Businesses along Main Street between Division Road and Gratiot Avenue will
remain accessible by local traffic. Once in the Granary District residents
and customers can utilize Howard Street to Division Road and Gleason Avenue
to Forest Avenue to get around the crossing. Howard Street, Gleason Avenue,
Beech Street, and Oak Street will remain open to traffic. Please support our
local merchants.
