APPLE PIE SAGA We had a good group of people making pies on
November 9 in the Richmond Middle School cafeteria. The apple order was
incorrect again, so we really got a late start. Thankfully, Jason got word to us
when he picked up the order in Utica. We sent Becky to Port Huron and Bev to
Chesterfield to get more apples. Instead of starting at 8:30 A.M., we got going
about 9:50. We sent Dwight to Kroger for more sugar. Utica Gordon’s also
delivered apples to us around noon so we could finish up. (They went to various
stores and gathered apples for us which was really nice.) Since we were making
more pies again, Sharon went back to Kroger for more sugar. The K-Kids were very
helpful, making boxes, putting on labels, and taking pies from station to
station. Thanks to all the Kiwanis members who came to help and for Sharon
Blewett’s family for all joining us. That was a big help!
At the end of the day, we had packed 67 pies in Lisa’s freezer. Bev, Jason
Rewalt, and Sharon Hiller all took home lots more pies than they had room for,
and found homes in other people’s freezers for pies. Lisa’s freezer went out, so
we scrambled to find places for pies. The Richmond Boosters came through for us,
and Becky’s dad found us some room.
Pies are continuing to sell. Romeo decided they wanted their pies on November
20, so Bev is going to deliver them. Utica’s pies get delivered on Thursday. We
think we still have about 20 pies left. Do you know anyone who would like to buy
pies? This isn’t really enough for the Winter Fest, so we’ll probably be making
pies again soon…
MEDILODGE BINGO On Saturday, November 16 at 1:30, we had a bingo for the
Medilodge Residents. Jason Rewalt, Lisa, John, and Sharon were there to assist.
Jason was our caller. We assisted with the numbers. (John says that we watched
them cheat.) The Christmas things went well. We found that they really want a
variety of prizes. If we do this again, we will have to take care to add some
jewelry and personal care items. At the end of the bingo, we served cookies and
juice. The people seemed to have a good time and several people thanked us for
coming.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS How many books are still out there? Please get money to
Jason Verlinde. We need to make our quota, so let’s see where we are. Check in
with him this week. His number is (586) 727-6525 at work.
NO MEETING ON THANKSGIVING Instead, please join us at the Romeo Kiwanis meeting
on Wednesday, November 27 at 12:00. If you want to ride together, meet at City
Hall at 11:30.
