NEW OFFICERS begin their tasks this week. Thanks to Gerry Tretheway for
the installation of our officers at our last meeting.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS Keep selling those books. We have a great of books still
out. We have sold 17 and have 53 to go. Let’s make it to our goal!
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY We had a nice morning Saturday to do our road clean-up on Armada
Ridge from the city limits to Welding Road. Bev and Jason Rewalt found some
interesting things along the road. You might want to ask them about their story.
Even though the trash may not look too bad as you drive by, we were filling our
bags quickly. In the spring before the grass gets too tall, we will try to get
down by the ditch where the trash really settles. We even found some large
appliances there. Thanks to Dennis, Lisa, Becky, John, Bev, Jason Rewalt, and
Sharon for their hour and a half journey down the road. Be sure to join us as we
continue these trips in the future. You never know what you may find.
INTER CLUB Bev would like to take an inter club to Shelby Daybreakers on
Wednesday morning, October 2 at 7:30 A.M. If you can go, please E-mail her at
Bdevriendt@powereqp.com or call her at (586) 727-2400 Ext. 1485. We need a
commitment from four people.
FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE will be held in Novi at the DoubleTree Hotel on
Saturday, October 19 from 9:30-1:30. The cost of materials, coffee break and
meal is $30.00. Registration is due by October 4. It would be nice to take an
inter club. Please check your calendar!
K-KIDS We are getting ready to start. There is an informational meeting prior to
the PTA meeting at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, October 8th in the Will L. Lee
Elementary Library. The first student meeting is Wednesday, October 15th from
3:45-4:15 P.M.
APPLE PIE SALE November 9 is our day to make pies in the Richmond Middle School
cafeteria. Please start getting your orders ready. The forms were sent out in
the mail last week.
ED KENT died this week. Please keep Ann Kent and their family in your prayers.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
In order to succeed, you must know what you are doing, like what you are doing,
and believe in what you are doing. -Will Rogers
COMMITTEES So far, I have not heard from anyone about the committee assignments.
Please help as we begin a new Kiwanis year in October. Which committee task is
closest to your heart? We have several members who have not been placed on any
committee yet. Others may want to change committees. Please decide on what
committee(s) you would like to work on during the coming year and E-mail Sharon
at shiller@Massnet1.net or call (586) 727-4457 with your decision by October 2.
(I am extending the deadline, but would really like your input.)
Here is a little information from Kiwanis Is a Verb about the committees giving
a little different slant than our leadership manuals.
Young Children—Priority One is the major service emphasis of Kiwanis for
children from before birth to age five. It aims to reduce or eliminate problems
threatening children during this critical time of human development.
Youth Services helps school aged boys and girls adjust to their environment and
meet the social, economic and moral demands they may encounter. It also helps
youth in their choice of vocation.
Community Services finds ways to assist the handicapped; support cultural
activities; promote safety, crime control, and health education; encourages
community beautification and good citizenship.
Human and Spiritual Values cooperates on broad non-denominational lines with
religious leaders and community groups to create individual and public
consciousness of the importance of religion and spiritual values. It works to
improve the human condition.
Sponsored Youth coordinates the Club’s activities with K-Kids in elementary
school, Builders Clubs in middle school, Key Clubs in high school, and Circle K
Clubs in college.
Club Meeting Committee arranges speakers, music, special equipment, fellowship,
inter clubs, prepares the meeting place, etc.
Membership Committee works to maintain the membership, orients new members and
inducts them into the club.
Fundraising Committee helps to organize the projects the group does to make
money to carry out service projects.
