ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS Our current fundraiser is selling entertainment books. They are $30 each. Jason has them at Verlinde Insurance. Please give him all funds and make sure that you do not give books to anyone else. All trades will take place in Jason’s office for better inventory control.

OFFICER INSTALLATION Gerry Tretheway, our new lieutenant governor will be with us on September 26 to install the new officers. If you are an officer or on the board of directors, please try to be present that day. Bev would like us to meet in our new committees that day.

KIWANIS OF MICHIGAN FOUNDATION Carl Romano shared a new video on our children’s hospitals project. He congratulated us on going over our goal and giving 139% of our share this year to the children’s hospitals. The foundation has been around since 1915 giving money to Mott in Ann Arbor, Northern Michigan Hospital, Mary Free Bed in Grand Rapids, and Children’s Hospital in Detroit. We help pay for the developmental therapists there to help reduce trauma through play. Items that are needed generally come from the clubs themselves. Last year Kiwanis assisted around 25,000 in- patient children and 200,000 out-patients. From St. Clair County there were 2,630 children. From Macomb County, there were 10,689 children.

FALL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE will be held in Novi at the DoubleTree Hotel on Saturday, October 19 from 9:30-1:30. The cost of materials, coffee break and meal is $30.00. Registration is due by October 4. It would be nice to take an inter club. Please check your calendar!

COMMITTEES As we begin a new Kiwanis year in October, we would like to have each person consider what committee they would like to be on in the coming year. We have several members who have not been placed on any committee yet. Others may want to change committees. Please decide on what committee(s) you would like to work on during the coming year and E-mail Sharon at shiller@Massnet1.net with your decision by September 18.
Here is a little information from Kiwanis Is a Verb about the committees giving a little different slant than our leadership manuals.

Young Children—Priority One is the major service emphasis of Kiwanis for children from before birth to age five. It aims to reduce or eliminate problems threatening children during this critical time of human development.

Youth Services helps school aged boys and girls adjust to their environment and meet the social, economic and moral demands they may encounter. It also helps youth in their choice of vocation.

Community Services finds ways to assist the handicapped; support cultural activities; promote safety, crime control, and health education; encourages community beautification and good citizenship.

Human and Spiritual Values cooperates on broad non-denominational lines with religious leaders and community groups to create individual and public consciousness of the importance of religion and spiritual values. It works to improve the human condition.

Sponsored Youth coordinates the Club’s activities with K-Kids in elementary school, Builders Clubs in middle school, Key Clubs in high school, and Circle K Clubs in college.

Club Meeting Committee arranges speakers, music, special equipment, fellowship, inter clubs, prepares the meeting place, etc.

Membership Committee works to maintain the membership, orients new members and inducts them into the club.

Fundraising Committee helps to organize the projects the group does to make money to carry out service projects.

K-KIDS Lisa has set up a meeting with the state leadership of K-Kids for Monday, September 23 at 3:30 P.M. We hope that all the leaders who will be involved can attend. Any Kiwanis members who would like to come, let Lisa know you are coming so we have enough space.

APPLE PIE SALE November 9 is our day to make pies in the Richmond Middle School cafeteria.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
I do not want to talk about what you understand about this world.
I want to know what you will do about it.
I do not want to know what you hope.
I want to know what you will work for.
I do not want your sympathy for the needs of humanity.
I want your muscle.
As the wagon driver said when they came to a long, hard hill,
“Them that’s going on with us, get out and push.
Them that ain’t, get out of the way.” -Robert Fulghum
