BICYCLE RODEO What a cold morning we had for our event! Thankfully, the rain held out. We still need to do an inventory to see how many helmets we gave out. I am guessing that we had around 250 children there to get a helmet. We ran out of helmets for those over 14 pretty quickly and will need to order some more. We gave out 21 rain checks. Thanks to Denny for his good organization! Thanks to Kelley, Lisa, Jason Rewalt, Bev and her son Brett, Becky and her daughter Erin, John and Sharon and their son-in-law, Steve Abood for setting up and passing out helmets. Several police officers from Richmond, the State Police, and Macomb County Sheriff were there to assist with helmet fitting and sharing information. Our speakers were Dave Hamilton and Magistrate Denis LeDuc. We had McGruff, the Crime Dog, present. We gave away three bicycles and a gift certificate to Hamilton Bikes that were all donations for the Bicycle Rodeo. The community support for the event was fantastic! Thanks to all who placed ads in the brochure and to Tonight’s the Night DJ services.

GUEST SPEAKER We had a speaker on May 16. Paul Piatt is running for Macomb County Probate Judge. He is one of the six candidates running to replace Judge Nowicki who is retiring after 26 years. Paul has been a practitioner for 30 years. He was a friend of the court referee in Oakland County of four years. He was an assistant prosecuting attorney in Macomb County for 12 years. He has been back in the private practice for about 15 years. The role of the Probate Judge is changing due to Family Court. He asked that we remember him on August 6. It’s Paul Piatt—Probate, PPP. He stated that Denis Leduc is running for District Judge.

NEW MEMBER Please welcome Dr. Patrick Bird, superintendent of Richmond Community Schools, to our club.

OFFICERS FOR October 2002-September 2003 Congratulations!

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
I hope I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.
