BE OUR GUEST DAY was Thursday, May 9th. We we pleased to have nine guests attend. Rev. Shane Prewitt was the guest of Jason Verlinde. Dr. Patrick Bird and Jon Moore were guests of John Hiller. Renee Wolfe, Tammy Same, and Wendy Shue were guests of Lisa Nolff. Gail McMaken was the guest of Sharon Hiller. We also had Ray Weingartz from Utica/Shelby Kiwanis as a guest of Bev DeVriendt and Denis LeDuc, president of Romeo Kiwanis who was our speaker for the day. Thank you all for making this a special day.
Denis LeDuc sees his task as making the fabric of the community stronger. Kiwanis is one way tries to accomplish this. Kiwanians not only help to raise money, but they reach for their calendar and go out to help young people. In Romeo, the club works on many of the activities that happen for youth in the community. In the process they have fun and develop friendships.
· Our Kiwanis Club meets on Thursday from about 12:10-1:00 at Main Street Café. The dues are $10 a month, most of which goes to support the Michigan and national organization. The initial fee is $25.
· We reach out in the community with our Bicycle Rodeo which will be held on May 18 at 10:00 with Safety Town and fingerprinting at 11:00.
· We just completed a Bowl-a-thon to send money to Michigan Foundation, an organization that provides a person in four children’s hospitals to support families there, as well as educational and enrichment materials for them.
· Kiwanis International also supports Key Clubs in high school, Builder’s Clubs in middle school, K-Kids in elementary school, and Action Clubs for the mentally impaired. At this time we do not sponsor any of these clubs.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
A clay pot sitting in the sun will always be a clay pot. It has to go through the white heat of the furnace to become porcelain.
