April 14, 2003
K-KIDS had their Charter Celebration on the
afternoon of April 5 at The Rink located at Van Dyke south of 23 Mile Road.
Thanks to Lisa Nolff, and our teacher advisor, Linda Sprau, and our parent
advisor, Renee Wolfe, for all of their hard work. The K-Kids all have shirts,
pins, and certificates. Their club has a nice banner and stand. They have been
working on projects already and have put together a project tree with all of
their altruistic activities on it. This month they hope to kick off their
Adopt-a-Resident program with Medilodge.
BOWL-A-THON Get ready for a fun-filled night at Striker’s. Bring your family and
friends to join us. Even if you can’t come, we would appreciate having you bring
a door prize for us. We will have a 50-50 raffle, a mystery game for the second
game, and cosmic bowling for the last game. Tickets are $10.00 each. Let’s fill
the place!
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER—MAY 1 Area pastors and people from our city join together
for prayer outside City Hall around noon on the first Thursday in May to share
in prayers for our leaders and concerns that affect all citizens. We will meet
there on May 1 and host a pizza luncheon for all who attend in the board room at
city hall. Please remember where to go that day.
E-MAIL We have decided to sent the minutes via E-mail to keep people up to speed
on the happenings at Kiwanis. If you don’t have E-mail, please let me know if
you want the minutes sent to you weekly. Otherwise, I will give you a periodic
newsletter when I have a chance to write it and feel there is enough news to
share.
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY CLEAN UP We have a mile stretch of Armada Ridge Road starting at
the city limits and leading toward Armada to clean. All of us will be required
to watch a video for training prior to the clean-up. We are to wear vests and
gloves. We will meet at Lisa Nolff’s home at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 3. Her
home is at 68895 Howard Street. It is a yellow house near 32 Mile Road. Last
time we were done by 10:00 and a few people went out for breakfast after our
work.
BICYCLE RODEO The advertisements are pouring in. We have lots of helmets in the
police garage and more on order. County agencies and the police departments will
be coming to fit helmets. We generally start setting up around 8:30 A.M. Be
prepared for a huge crowd to suddenly appear on May 17 at 10:00 A.M. at Beebe
Street Park. Bicycle Safety talks take around 20-30 minutes prior to giving away
the helmets and bicycles. We were given a bicycle by Jim Hanus and another one
has been donated by Dave Hamilton. These will be raffled off. A parade will take
place to wrap up this portion of the day.
Kelley Osterman has planned the Safety Town again for families. Jim Hanus is
setting up a child safety seat inspection for later in the day.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
I think the people of this world are going to want peace so much that one of
these days, governments had better get out of their way and let them have it.
